Lotta Jacobsson is Fe of the Year

Luleå Lotta Jacobsson, who leads SSAB's fossil-free conversion of the steelworks in Luleå, has been named Fe of the Year.

"With solid experience, the Fe of the Year 2024 leads one of Sweden's most important industries towards a brighter and greener future. This involves a gigantic puzzle of groundbreaking technological changes in a complex project that places high demands on technical expertise and inspiring leadership. This year's Fe 2024 is constantly faced with completely new issues and obstacles where no one else has previously paved the way", says the motivation.

"It feels great, honoring and a bit shocking - there are so many talented women in the industry," says Lotta Jakobsson.

She was born in Piteå and has a master's degree in materials engineering from Luleå University of Technology and Université de Lorraine in France.

Lotta Jakobsson has worked for over 20 years at SSAB, and at all of SSAB's production sites in Sweden. First in Oxelösund in 2001, in Borlänge 2001-2003 and then in Luleå. She started as a process developer and has since held various roles, such as head of metallurgical development, production manager for continuous casting and responsible for investment projects in Luleå. She is now Director of Luleå Transformation at SSAB.

"The transition in Luleå is the most important project I will ever work on. With SSAB's entire transition, we can cut 10 percent of Sweden's carbon dioxide emissions - that's making a real difference," says Lotta Jakobsson.

Industriarbetsgivarna (The Industrial Employers), and the industry organizations Svemin and Jernkontoret are behind the award.

This year's Fe is chosen from the "40 over 40" list, which recognizes women over 40 in the mining and steel industry. Women who have made special efforts in or for the mining and steel industry. More than half of the list consists of women working in northern Sweden. Four of the women on the list work at SSAB: Lotta Jakobsson, Lisette Mikaelsson (Site Manager, SSAB Luleå), Karin Lundberg (Environmental Manager, SSAB Luleå) and Karin Palmqvist (Logistics Manager, SSAB Oxelösund).

"Fe" stands for iron in the periodic table.
