They reduce plastic consumption by 65 tonnes

Luleå Food producer Nyhléns Hugosons, headquartered in Luleå, is changing its packaging and reducing plastic consumption by more than 70%, or 65 tonnes per year.

Nyhléns Hugosons is the first company in northern Sweden to switch to climate-smart packaging for its meat products.

"We are constantly working to develop and improve our packaging to reduce plastic consumption and increase the proportion of recycled or renewable raw materials without affecting the quality or sustainability of the products. Our goal is for all our plastic packaging to be made from recycled or renewable raw materials by 2030," says Anna Ahlqvist, Marketing and Sustainability Manager at Nyhléns Hugosons.

The company has invested SEK 6 million in a new packaging line at its production facility in Skellefteå.

Today, Nyhléns Hugosons handles everything from animal breeding, selection processes and slaughter to cutting and processing of meat and sausage products.

The company has facilities in Luleå, Skellefteå, Boden and Ullånger. The group also includes Änge Chark AB, Jokkmokks Korv AB and Haparanda Potatis AB. The group currently has around 240 employees and a turnover of just over SEK 850 million.
