Small businesses create a record number of jobs in Norrbotten

In Norrbotten, companies with fewer than 50 employees accounted for 43,916 jobs in 2023, more than any year since 1990. Compared with the early 1990s, the number of jobs in small businesses has increased by more than 60 per cent in the county.

Small businesses accounted for 32 per cent of all jobs in Norrbotten County. This is about the same proportion as for the country as a whole.

"The jobs originate in the smaller companies. Since 1990, almost four out of five new jobs have been created in small and medium-sized enterprises in Sweden. Between 2022 and 2023, almost 20,000 jobs were added in small businesses, despite the weak economic situation that is hampering businesses," says Martin Daniels, a statistician at the organisation Företagarna.
