New business creation decreased in the first quarter

Luleå During the first three months of the year, new businesses in Norrbotten have decreased by 12 per cent compared to the same period last year.

During the first quarter, 309 new companies have started in Norrbotten. This is 44 fewer than in the first quarter of 2023.

The trend is the same for the whole country, which has an average decrease of 9 per cent. The only county that has a clear increase, by 6 per cent, is Halland.

It is above all the development during March that worsens the statistics. Then entrepreneurship fell by more than 20 per cent in both Norrbotten and the country.

"Just when we had hoped for a boost for new businesses, there was a major setback. New businesses are largely determined by future expectations. In times of economic uncertainty, fewer businesses are usually started. Let's hope that things turn around for Sweden as we need new viable companies - which provide jobs and increased economic growth," says Harry Goldman, CEO of Nyföretagarcentrum Sverige.

The statistics, which come from the Swedish Companies Registration Office and are compiled by Visma and Nyföretagarcentrum Sverige, include limited companies, sole traders, partnerships and limited partnerships. Many sole traders are only registered with the Swedish Tax Agency and are therefore not included in the Swedish Companies Registration Office's statistics.
