NCC signs asphalt contracts worth SEK 840 million in northern Sweden

Luleå Construction company NCC has signed 19 agreements with the Swedish Transport Administration for road maintenance in northern Sweden. The contracts run until 2025 and have a total order value of SEK 840 million.

The contracts are for road maintenance in the northern parts of the country, mainly on roads in Dalarna, Gävleborg, Norrbotten, Jämtland and Västerbotten counties. In total, around 600 kilometres of road will be improved with a total of around 483,000 tonnes of asphalt.

NCC will use around 30 per cent recycled asphalt in the work. This will be done by milling the road surface and using stone material and bitumen from the existing asphalt in the new coating. This method significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared to traditional methods. The asphalt will be produced close to the work area in local asphalt plants and complemented by mobile asphalt plants to shorten transport and reduce the climate impact.

"For many years, NCC has worked systematically and purposefully to find production solutions that reduce carbon dioxide emissions from asphalt paving. We look forward to improving such a large part of the roads in northern Sweden and at the same time supporting our customers in achieving their climate goals," says Grete Aspelund, Business Area Manager, NCC Industry.

NCC is one of the major construction companies in the Nordic region. Its operations include construction and infrastructure projects, production of asphalt and stone materials, and commercial property development. In 2024, NCC had sales of approximately SEK 62 billion and 11,800 employees. NCC's shares are listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
