Wibax and Smurfit team up to go fossil free
A fixed charging station at Smurfit Westrock in Piteå means that a large part of Wibax's transport to and from the factory can be driven by electric vehicles.
"The charger is now installed, tested and ready to use. We are very pleased that we have been able to work with Smurfit Westrock. Together we can create change," says Magnus Wikman, CEO of Wibax Energy.
Wibax Energy's mission is to provide charging infrastructure for Wibax's electric trucks, and to produce and supply the Group with electricity from its own renewable energy source.
Wibax is working towards the goal of having a 100 per cent fossil-free vehicle fleet powered by 100 per cent self-generated electricity by 2030. This will be achieved partly through fixed charging stations at all Wibax depots in the Nordic region, and partly through both mobile and fixed charging stations at customers' premises.
The fixed charging station at Smurfit Westrock enables Wibax drivers to charge their lorries when they are stationary unloading liquid chemicals into the paper mill's tanks. Wibax can also loan the charger to Smurfit Westrock and other suppliers when required.
Wibax is participating in the national initiative REEL, where Swedish actors have joined forces to accelerate the transition to electrified heavy transport. REEL is funded by Vinnova (the Swedish innovation agency), the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Transport Administration, and is part-financed by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency through Klimatklivet.
