Peab moves cultural buildings in Kiruna
The buildings will be moved from Kiruna's old center to the new center that is now emerging.
"It is an honor for us at Peab that we have been commissioned to help preserve several cultural buildings in Kiruna. Moving old buildings weighing up to 500 tons is a challenging task where our skills come in handy,” says Hans Boija, Regional Manager at Peab.
The moves will take place in stages. This is the first stage. More cultural buildings will be moved and renovated over the next few years.
"Moving our historic buildings to Kiruna's new city center is an important part of preserving our cultural history. It is essential that this is done safely, and in collaboration with Peab we have moved three of Kiruna's most famous houses, Peking House, Landstöm's and the Salvation Army's old house. These will now be installed on site and live on,” says Linus Niva, Head of Community Development at LKAB.
The assignment is a turnkey contract. The work started in December 2024 and will be completed by the end of 2026.
