Hybrit received award in Davos

Luleå The Hybrit project, run by LKAB, SSAB and Vattenfall, received the “Moving Force in Business” award at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

It is one of five GAEA awards presented to recognize sustainable business solutions that have the potential to transform entire sectors, industries or markets. GAEA stands for “Giving to Amplify Earth Action”.

- We are honored by this recognition from the GAEA Awards and the World Economic Forum. It is an important acknowledgment of the collaboration and groundbreaking journey we have made together with SSAB and Vattenfall. The results show that the Hybrit process works and that we are well equipped for the next step of industrializing the technology and establishing a competitive value chain for the fossil-free iron and steel production of the future,” says Jan Moström, President and CEO of LKAB.

The Hybrit (Hydrogen Breakthrough Ironmaking Technology) project started in 2016 as a collaboration between LKAB, SSAB and Vattenfall. A pilot plant in Luleå is now in operation and a demonstration plant for industrial-scale production will be built in Gällivare.
