Hitachi expands factory in Piteå

Piteå Hitachi Energy is expanding its factory in Piteå in Norrbotten and will increase the number of employees by 50 per cent.

In December last year, the company bought the property where the expansion of the factory will take place. The investment involves investing in new machinery and hiring 100 new employees. Today, the factory has 200 employees.

According to the company, the investment is being made to meet the increasing demand for power transmission equipment driven by the energy transition.

"We are seeing increased demand for our world-leading technologies that are accelerating the transition to renewable energy around the world and we are very excited to increase our manufacturing of critical composite components for electric power equipment, and expand our production in Piteå," says Tobias Hansson, CEO of Hitachi Energy in Sweden.

The Piteå plant produces composite insulators used in transformers, circuit breakers and power electronics, components in systems for transmitting large amounts of energy between countries and over long distances. Three new production lines will be created, for small insulators, large insulators, and cylinders for winding couplers.

Hitachi Energy has around 7,000 employees in Sweden. The largest operations are located in Ludvika and Västerås. In total, Hitachi Energy has about 45,000 employees in 60 countries and a turnover of SEK 145 billion (USD 13 billion).
