Construction investments increase most in Norrbotten

This year, construction investments in Norrbotten will increase by 15% according to a forecast from the trade association Byggföretagen. This is the largest increase in Sweden.

The region that comes closest is Kalmar with an increase of 7%. The average for the whole of Sweden is a decrease of 3% per cent in 2024.

Even in 2025, Norrbotten has an increase of 8%. Then several regions have increases that are greater or at the same level. The average for the whole country in 2025 is an increase of 5%, according to Byggföretagen's forecast.

"The construction market has weighed on Sweden's growth for some time. At the same time, major steps are needed in terms of new investments and maintenance of infrastructure critical to society. The construction industry has unique opportunities to contribute to increased competitiveness and preparedness, if politicians ensure that we do not get bogged down in lengthy authorisation processes," says Catharina Elmsäter-Svärd, CEO of Byggföretagen (the Swedish Construction Federation).

In 2023, construction investments amounted to SEK 20.9 billion in Norrbotten, which was an increase of 4% compared to the previous year. In total, construction investments in Sweden were SEK 650 billion in 2023.

According to Byggföretagen, total construction investments in housing, premises and facilities in Sweden in 2025 will amount to just over SEK 660 billion in 2023 prices.
