Sweco to design Kiruna's new hospital
As general consultant, Sweco will take overall responsibility for architectural design, efficient floor plans, site plans for the building's location and surroundings, and for the design of ventilation, water, sewage, electricity, building construction and cost calculations.
The new hospital will be built in the old Tuolluvaara mining area, just outside Kiruna's new city centre, and will house all the activities of the current hospital. At the same time, it will utilise opportunities for improvement, efficiency and future-proofing, compared with the current premises.
"From Sweco's side, we are prepared to contribute to an important social infrastructure that will benefit Kiruna's residents for many years to come. Our goal is not only to create a hospital that meets today's healthcare needs, but one that is also sustainable, robust and adapted for the future," says Ann-Louise Lökholm Klasson, President of Sweco Sweden.
In consultation with Region Norrbotten, work is scheduled to begin in November 2024 and the new hospital is expected to be completed around 2029-2031.
