Piteå had the most guest nights

Piteå The Norrbotten coastal municipality of Piteå had the most guest nights of all the municipalities in Norrbotten and Västerbotten during the past summer.

During the three summer months, Piteå had 265,000 guest nights, which is 22% of all guest nights in Norrbotten.

"It feels good that we are maintaining our position as an attractive summer town. It's also great for the local business community, as each visitor also shops, eats and activates themselves in various ways," says Patric Lundström, municipal councillor in Piteå municipality.

One important reason for the large number of guest nights is that Pite Havsbad, just outside the centre of Piteå, is a popular campsite, and also the largest tourist and conference facility in the Nordic region. During the summer, the campsite accounted for 63% of guest nights in Piteå, which is significantly higher than the average in Sweden, Norrbotten and Västerbotten.

"It has been a fantastic record summer. On many days we have had up to 7,000 overnight guests and over 10,000 visitors during the day. We have had the biggest increase in camping and foreign guests," says Tobias Lindfors, CEO and principal owner of Piteå Havsbad group.

The statistics show that the number of foreign visitors has increased by 17% compared to the summer of 2023. They account for 45% of all guest nights in Piteå and Norwegians are the largest group.

The statistics come from Tillväxtverket.
