Peter Carlsson leaves as CEO of Northvolt

Skellefteå The CEO and founder of the battery company Northvolt, Peter Carlsson, is stepping down as CEO of Northvolt with immediate effect. He will remain as a board member and advisor.

This was announced on Friday. The day before, it became clear that Northvolt is filing for reorganisation in the US, in a so-called Chapter 11 process.

“Today marks a significant new phase for Northvolt as well as for me personally. The Chapter 11 filing allows a period during which the company can be reorganized, ramp up operations while honoring customer and supplier commitments, and ultimately position itself for the long-term. That makes it a good time for me to hand over to the next generation of leaders," said Peter Carlsson in a press release.

While the board searches for a new CEO, Northvolt's executive management team will consist of CFO Pia Altonen-Forsell and Mattias Arleth. They will be supported by Scott Millar, head of restructuring advisory at US-based Teneo, which is working on Northvolt's reorganisation.

“We are incredibly thankful to Peter for his vision and dedication to building Northvolt from an unprecedented idea to becoming Europe’s battery manufacturing champion. Peter’s perspective will continue to benefit Northvolt, as a Senior Advisor and Member of the Board, while the new leadership will steer the company into the next stage," said Tom Johnstone, Interim Chairman of Northvolt.

Peter Carlsson founded Northvolt in 2016 and has been CEO since then.
