Inlandsbanan invites to alternative financing

Gällivare Inlandsbanan AB, which operates the more than 1,000 kilometres of railway through northern Sweden's hinterland, from Mora to Gällivare, is inviting tenders for an RFI, Request for Information.

The aim is to gather information from potential stakeholders and partners to drive the modernisation project. Since 2018, Inlandsbanan has been working to identify the interest and need for a modernised railway line, which is crucial to meet market demands and promote regional growth.

Among the specific improvements planned for the railway are increased speed and increased load-bearing capacity, which will help streamline transport options.

"We see great potential in upgrading the Inlandsbanan railway, not only to improve transport connectivity, but also to support the green transition and increase safety. By involving the industry's actors and stakeholders in this process, we can together create a railway that meets the needs of the market," says Otto Nilsson, CEO of Inlandsbanan AB.

Inlandsbanan AB is owned by 19 municipalities along the railway.
