Researchers test 6G underground
"We will research how to exploit the capabilities of the experimental 5G network to be standardised and integrated into the future 6G network. Our goal is for autonomous systems to work better in critical and industrial environments," says George Nikolakopoulos, Professor of Robotics and AI at Luleå University of Technology.
The deep mines of the future, but also the construction and aerospace industries, will require more and more autonomous fleets of machines that explore, work and solve problems on site in difficult and inaccessible environments.
The research team's underground lab in a mountain near Luleå University of Technology will allow them to test and conduct research in an environment similar to the harsh conditions found in deep mines.
The project is funded by the Kempe Foundations and LTU's lab fund and the installation will be completed later this year.
