Researchers and industry plan for new automation technologies

Luleå During the week, researchers and industry from all over Europe have gathered at Luleå University of Technology to plan how new automation technology can be introduced in industry.

It is about two major projects that aim to increase industrial productivity with the help of digitization and AI. Affected industries are the semiconductor industry and industries in the areas of automotive, aviation, green energy, banking, and manufacturing and process industry.

"We have already tested the technologies in a large number of industries and have seen 30-95% cost and time savings. And it is in industries such as the automotive and mining industry, where one is usually impressed by results of 0.3 - 0.9 percent efficiency," says Jerker Delsing, professor of cyber-physical systems at Luleå University of Technology.

The two major EU projects AIMS5.0 and Arrowhead fPVN have a combined budget of over EUR 100 million. The projects are funded by the EU agency Chips-JU, and by participating countries and partners.

"It is both exciting and gives very good reputation for Luleå University of Technology and the region to have leading roles in both these flagship projects," says Jerker Delsing, in a press release.
