Unemployment is lowest in northern Sweden

Luleå Kiruna, Sweden's northernmost municipality, has the lowest unemployment rate in the country.

Unemployment is only 2.1% in Kiruna. Västerbotten, the second northernmost county, has the lowest unemployment rate at 4.0%. Perstorp municipality in Skåne, Sweden's southernmost county, has the highest unemployment rate at 13.7% and Skåne is the county with the highest unemployment rate at 9.0%.

This is shown in a new quarterly report from the Swedish Public Employment Service.

‘Unemployment is generally lower in the north of Sweden and higher in the south, and the differences have widened recently. The differences are also clearly visible when you look at unemployment levels for different groups, such as young people or those born abroad,’ says Emil Persson, Labour Market Analyst at the Swedish Public Employment Service.
