RISE and Telia collaborate on 5G

Luleå The Swedish government research institute RISE has signed an agreement with telecoms operator Telia Sweden on strategic cooperation on innovation in 5G.

The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to shorten the lead time from research and innovation to commercialisation.

"RISE's mission is to strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish industry, partly by helping to guide innovations all the way from idea to industrial scale. We already have a large and successful collaboration with Telia in, among other things, an EU project on 5G and digital infrastructure; this collaboration agreement means that we can now put even more effort into the work," says Malin Frenning, CEO of RISE.

"We have already collaborated with RISE in several different innovation projects - in the transport sector and the mining industry, among others. We are now deepening our cooperation and this will help us to accelerate our efforts," says Anders Olsson, CEO of Telia Sweden.

The collaboration between RISE and Telia will initially focus on innovation and test beds in 5G. In this area, Telia is conducting several major development projects and RISE has cutting-edge expertise and a research infrastructure at the ICE Data Centre in Luleå.

"Telia and RISE will offer a joint digital infrastructure for test beds in Sweden to strengthen the national effort on the use and applications for 5G and computing. With this we also take the leadership in Europe," says Hanifeh Khayyeri, VP Digital Systems RISE.
