Plug-in hybrid ship start new green era in the port of Luleå

The new plug-in hybrid vessel Electramar has arrived at the Port of Luleå.

The 90 metre long and 16 metre wide vessel initiates the green transition of freight to and from Luleå, one of Sweden's largest ports.

"For Shorelink, the Electramar is not just a ship, it is a lego piece in the quest to become Sweden's most efficient and sustainable port operator by 2030. Thanks to close cooperation with Atobac Shipping and DSV, this vision has now taken a significant step forward," says Anders Viljeros, Business Area Manager at Shorelink, operator of the Port of Luleå.

The new vessel arrived in Luleå after a sea journey from India, around Cape of Good Hope in South Africa and up to Luleå.

"We are extremely happy to finally have the first vessel in its home waters ready to serve our customers. With the new vessel series, we offer our customers a better environmental profile and through battery operation, our vessels can, for example, enter and leave harbours both emission-free and without noise and vibrations," says Frida Rowland, Commercial Director at Atobac Shipping.

Electramar is the first in a series of 12 new hybrid electric vessels. The vessels are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50 per cent compared to the current fleet.

The cooperation also includes the transport company DSV.

"As one of the world's leading transport companies focused on becoming a pioneer in green solutions, we are proud to be part of the future of sustainable maritime transport together with Shorelink and Atobac Shipping. Working together with partners who also have high sustainability ambitions is a big part of our roadmap to reach our goals by 2030," says Per Sundholm, Business Developer at DSV Air & Sea.
