New co-operation on housing construction

Pajala The mining company Kaunis Iron and Pajala municipality are working together to boost housing construction in the municipality.

The new co-operation project is called Bygglyftet, the construction lift. It involves the municipality offering buildable land.

"As a first step, Pajala Housing has decided to start work on building about 20 new apartments, the first we have built since 2013," says Leif Gräsvik, CEO of the municipal housing company Pajala Bostäder.

In Pajala, 51 people are registered with the Public Employment Service and there are 273 job vacancies in the municipality. In addition, Kaunis Iron will need at least another 50 new employees when the new open pit mine in Sahavaara is put into operation.

"We will help communicate the opportunities that exist here and our underlying need is a guarantee that new housing is needed. We see that there is new construction here in the municipality and that children are being born in the villages, so we must all help to create good conditions for a growing Pajala," says Åsa Allan, Vice President of Kaunis Iron.
