Wibax and Scania electrify tankers in Finland
Wibax's subsidiary in Finland, Wibax Logistics Oy, and Scania Finland have signed an agreement for the delivery of a fully electric Scania 45R tractor unit for Wibax's heavy tankers.
The delivery will take place in spring 2024, when Wibax will start heavy tank transport with a fully electric vehicle combination weighing 64 tons. It will be the first 64-ton vehicle to operate in Finland.
In Finland, there are already several fully electric delivery vehicles for urban traffic, but only a few fully electric heavy vehicle combinations. Now the electrification of heavy transport is underway, and Wibax Logistics wants to be a leader in this development.
"We have set an ambitious goal to switch to a fully electric vehicle fleet by 2030. Simply switching to an electric fleet is not enough for us, we also want the electricity used by our cars to be produced by us. In addition to electric traffic, we will also switch to renewable energy in our terminals by the middle of the decade," says Olli Paasio, CEO of Wibax Logistics Oy.
Wibax has already tested heavy transportation in Sweden with all-electric trucks together with Scania. The pilot has given Scania valuable information for vehicle development and Wibax Logistics has also been able to evaluate the electrification of heavy transport.
"The cooperation with Scania has been crucial in making this purchase. Through joint planning, we were able to find a solution that suits us and helps us develop our business. We want to enable our customers to develop their operations to be even more sustainable and environmentally friendly," says Olli Paasio.
