Major investment in the port of Skellefteå

The municipal council in Skellefteå is expected to decide on the financing at the council meeting in November. It involves an investment of EUR 112 million.

The need for a new quay has increased following the establishment of the Northvolt battery factory in Skellefteå.

"With the new industry emerging, the port will become a hub for different modes of transportation such as shipping, trains and trucks. The new quay will be an important part of the community development to create competitive advantages for the business community to conduct international trade in a continuous and reliable way, not only for the local business community but for the entire region," says Sara Keisu-Lundh (S), chairman of the urban planning committee in Skellefteå.

Expanding the port requires new land areas and deepening of the fairway.

Production is scheduled to begin at the turn of the year and the new quay will be completed by the end of 2027.
