Grieg Connect digitizes ports in the north

Luleå Norwegian-owned Grieg Connect has signed an agreement with the Port of Piteå and the Port of Luleå for a digital support system in the ports.

Both ports want to digitize their operations to strengthen their roles for a future where increased traffic is expected in the ports. They want to modernize administrative processes and improve information. The new system will allow ports to share information on resource planning and berth planning. Among other things, ship movements can be monitored on digital charts.

"The Port of Piteå has made investments in increased capacity and is well equipped to meet the increased demand for freight transport from both existing and new customers. It feels very good that we can continue to develop the cooperation with the Port of Luleå, of which a common digital ecosystem is an essential part," says Ulrika Nilsson, CEO of the Port of Piteå.

Grieg Connect provides integrated system modules, data services, API interfaces and mobile applications that enable the parties to share data and collaborate. The first parts of the collaboration have already started.

"The Port of Luleå is growing in line with Norrbotten's unique opportunity to be a world leader in the green transition. A prerequisite for this is close cooperation with the Port of Piteå and a joint digital ecosystem is an important piece of the puzzle for the future," says Anders Dahl, CEO of the Port of Luleå.

Grieg Connect AS is headquartered in Kristiansund, Norway. The company has a turnover of €10 million. The Swedish subsidiary Grieg Connect AB has an office in Karlstad. More than 100 ports and terminals and 275 ships use Grieg Connect's systems in their daily operations. Grieg Connect AS is owned by Grieg Logistics, which is part of the family-owned Grieg Group, one of Norway's oldest shipping companies, founded in Bergen 135 years ago.
