Åsa Allan honoured for leadership
The award was presented during the Fennoscandian exploration and mining (FEM) conference in Levi, Finland. The award recognises "outstanding contributions" to the geology and mining industry in the Fennoscandian countries of Sweden, Norway and Finland. Åsa Allan received the award for her "exceptional leadership".
"What an honour! I look back with great pleasure on everything I have been able to develop and experience through my work. It is fantastic that it is recognised through this award. I want to thank my family, friends, former and current colleagues for all the support and inspiration you give me," says Åsa Allan.
The motivation for the award states:
“Åsa Allans career in the mining industry shows what a capable and brave person can achieve. She has contributed to unlock the economic potential of apathy-Iron-copper deposits in northern Sweden. Her PhD on geology of such a deposit was followed by shift to mining industry, where she contributed as a planning manager to the opening of Kaunisvaara mine. More importantly her work since 2015 first as Pajala municipality manager and then as a vice CEO of Kaunis Iron AB was vital for the reopening of the mine. Åsa has shown exceptional leadership and acts as a role model for young geologists.”
The jury for the award consisted of Pertti Lamberg and Taija Kankaanpää, FinnMinn, Anita Helene Hall, Secretary General of the Norwegian Mining Industry, Maria Sunér, CEO of Swemin and Hans Årebäck, Head of Business Development at Boliden Mines.
