The tourism industry in Luleå is once again a billion industry
In 2022, Luleå had 537,442 commercial guest nights. This was an increase of 32.8 percent compared to the previous year. It was also 4.7 percent more than the previous record year 2019, before the pandemic. This means that the hospitality industry is again a billion industry in Luleå municipality.
For Luleå's tourism industry to continue to grow and develop, the accommodation capacity needs to increase. Both with new facilities and by spreading the guests throughout the year so that it does not become too crowded during certain periods, writes Luleå Business Region in a press release.
"The green industrial transition will create many new jobs in our region, not only in industry but also in all services around. The tourism industry and the availability of international direct flights play an important role for people to choose to move here", says Karin Åberg, Business Developer at Luleå Business Region.
The direct flights from Paris, Düsseldorf and London, as well as the Dutch skating championship, have contributed to Luleå having a relatively large proportion of foreign visitors.
TEM stands for Tourism Economy Model for statistics and effect measurements in the hospitality industry. The TEM reports are produced by the consulting company Resurs on behalf of the Swedish Tourist Board.
