Ed Bowie new CEO of Beowulf Mining
Ed Bowie is British and has 30 years of experience in the mining industry. In recent years he has worked in business development for companies in the mining and energy sectors.
"When it comes to my role at Beowulf Mining, I have extensive experience of analysing mining projects in order to optimise their value and growth. So, I look forward to familiarising myself with the operations and the local conditions, and evaluating our projects with new, fresh eyes," says Ed Bowie.
He succeeds Kurt Budge, who has been CEO of Beowulf for nine years.
At the same time, the company announces that it will not be submitting an application for an environmental permit this year, as planned, but will be postponed until next year. The application will be preceded by a review of the company's development plan and timetable.
The company's plans for mining in Kallak are controversial and have met with strong opposition from the Sami villages concerned and nature conservation interests.
The subsidiary Jokkmokk Iron was granted a processing concession for Kallak in March 2022, and the company's ambition is to open a mine that it says will contribute around 500 jobs to the region in the long term.
