Alstom in agreement with Railway Technology Center

Luuleå The global company Alstom signs an agreement with the Railway Technology Center (JVTC) at Luleå University of Technology.

According to Alstom, the collaboration with LTU strengthens the company's commitment to the Swedish railway industry. The cooperation will promote knowledge exchange, research collaboration and innovation in railway technology. The collaboration will combine Alstom's experience of production in the railway industry with LTU's academic resources.

"By combining our industrial experience and expertise with Luleå University of Technology's academic resources, we look forward to developing innovative solutions and technologies for green mobility and the railway system. Collaborations on internships and training programs for students can also train and attract new talent to the railway industry," says Maria Signal Martebo, CEO of Alstom Transport Sweden AB.

The agreement was signed on the occasion of JVTC's 25th anniversary.

"Now that northern Sweden is becoming an engine for the green transition, the research at JVTC can contribute to a well-functioning and reliable railway, which is a prerequisite for the global climate transition," says Uday Kumar, professor of operation and maintenance at Luleå University of Technology and Director of JVTC.

JVTC develops tools, methods and technologies for maintenance that can mitigate the negative effects of climate change on railway systems and infrastructure. JVTC's geographical location with the proximity to both the main railway line through upper Norrland and the Malmbanan line enables research that is in demand worldwide. The approximately 50 researchers at Luleå University of Technology are one of Europe's largest research groups in their field and are leaders in railway maintenance research.
