Port of Skellefteå is expanding
The investment amounts to a total of SEK 1.4 billion, of which SEK 1.3 billion is through the municipality's group of companies. SEK 100 million has been granted by Tillväxtverket, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth. The aim is to secure further external funding.
"Based on the social transformation we are undergoing, the new quay is an important investment. Today's port operations cannot cope with future needs. The new quay will create competitive advantages for local and regional businesses and contribute to economic growth and sustainable industrial development," says Lorents Burman (S), municipal councillor.
Preparations for a new quay have been ongoing since 2017. The production phase will start at the turn of the year and a new quay is planned to be completed by the end of 2027.
"There are several companies that have expressed a need to use the port in the future and are also expected to have a continuously increased need. The expansion also enables more business establishments in Skellefteå and links to society's need for a transition towards electrification and lower climate impact," says Evelina Fahlesson (S), municipal councilor.
