LTU researcher behind the lunar lander
Avijit Banerjee has for three years been the leader of the research focus on space autonomy within the Robotics and AI group at LTU. There he was working with the autonomous soft landing for the lunar lander, Chandrayaan-3, who landed on the rim of Shackleton Crater on the moon.
"Of course, I am very happy and honored that my solution for autonomous and safe soft landing on the moon has been implemented on board the lunar lander by the team of the Indian Space Organization, ISRO, for their lunar exploration mission Chandrayaan-3," says Avijit Banerjee.
Space autonomy is the new challenge in space research, with the goal of completing next-generation space missions, and here Luleå University of Technology aims to be at the forefront.
India now is the fourth nation on the moon, after USA, the Soviet Union/Russia and China.
