Bilstein signs agreement with H2 Green Steel

Boden The German steel company Bilstein signs an agreement with the not yet built Swedish H2 Green Steel in Boden. The contract is worth SEK 2.8 billion.

Bilstein Group was an early investor in H2 Green Steel and was one of the first customers to sign a green steel purchase agreement. That agreement has now evolved into a binding seven-year supply agreement where fossil-free steel will start to be delivered from the new steel industry in Boden in 2026.

"Working with them is a real vote of confidence in our future sustainable steel production and a milestone achievement for us", says Henrik Henriksson, CEO of H2 Green Steel.

H2 Green Steel and Bilstein also plan to work together to develop steel grades, exchange best practices to reduce the carbon footprint and develop a circular model where scrap from Bilstein Group's production facilities will be recycled in H2 Green Steel's steel production.

"The contract now signed is an important milestone for our company on the way to significantly reducing our carbon footprint as quickly as possible and ensuring that a large part of our raw material sourcing is ‘green’ by the end of the decade. This agreement brings the Bilstein Group an important step closer to the ambitious CO2 reduction targets we have set for ourselves,” says Marc T. Oehler, CEO and managing Partner Bilstein Group.

The family-owned Bilstein Group produces cold-rolled steel strip for customers in the automotive, tool and interior design industries. Founded in 1911 in Hagen, Germany, the company employs more than 1,400 people at production sites in Germany, the Czech Republic and the United States.
