Background

The strategic innovation programme

Luleå The strategic innovation programme Swedish Mining Innovation is part of a joint investment in strategic innovation areas by Vinnova, Formas and the Swedish Energy Agency.

It aims at creating opportunities for international competitiveness and sustainable solutions to global societal challenges, such as access to raw materials and a sustainable commodity production.

Actors in academia, industry and other organisations collaborate within the programme. Anyone who wishes to contribute to the overall aim and objectives of the programme are invited to submit applications för financing.

Within the program there are four kinds of activities:

- Outreach, communication and internationalisation

- Innovation projects

- Meetings and workshops

- Education

The mandators are Vinnova, the Swedish governments innovation agency, Formas, a governments research council för sustainable development, and the governments Swedish Energy Agency, responsible for promotion of energy efficiency measures and investments in renewable energy technologies.

Luleå University of Technology administrate the programme as host organization.

The programme started in 2013, then called SIP-STRIM.
